Our mission as an association is to unite the Puerto Rican people of the greater Bay Area by providing a warm, clean, friendly environment that develops our rich cultural heritage through our food, dance and customs. Putting an emphasis on education for our youth through scholarships and growing our ability to become a greater facilitator to our people by providing mutual aid and benefits to those in need growing the association by outreach and focusing on young Puerto Rican families. Encouraging each other by exemplifying honor, dignity and true Puerto Rican pride.

Who is PRUMA? Union Puertorriqueña de Ayuda Mutua was organized in May 1937 and incorporated July 7, 1937. Our motto is to "Advance with Progress". The Association was founded by a group of Puerto Ricans who came from Hawaii to the East Bay and wanted to create a benevolent organization to further their people. The purpose for the Association is to help other Puerto Ricans in the San Francisco Bay Area. We bring the Puerto Rican community together keeping the culture alive through our Jibaro music and Puerto Rican food. We hold regular dances and raise funds for educational scholarships and other community benefits. We are proud to have Cynthia Caraballo as our current President. President’s Message

April 2020

Hello Members!

I do hope that everyone is doing well and Sheltering in home, if you don’t have to work!         I know that this is a very trying time for everyone, but with common sense, we will get through this!! I was sent some info about this virus and I’ll share it with you so we can remember some good safeguards …. Especially to those that go out of the home!

One thing I’ve found out is that, they say, it usually starts with sore throat, dry cough, hard time to breathe, tired aching body… BUT you may have all or some of the symptoms.  It’s main attack is the Respiratory System!  It creates a thick mucus that solidifies and blocks airways and lungs.

So, these are some recommendations on how to combat the above from happening!

Drink lots of Hot liquids: coffee, tea, soups & warm water.
When you get home…Take a sip of warm water every 20 mins.  This keeps your mouth moist & washes any of the virus that may have entered your mouth & pushes it into your stomach where the gastric juices will neutralize it before it can get to the lungs.
Gargle with an antiseptic or, warm water with salt, vinegar or lemon juice everyday, if you feel a sore throat coming on Do it every Hour! The Virus enters thru the throat where it could remain for 3-4 days before it passes to the lungs.
WASH YOUR HANDS!  For 20 seconds with soap that foams….constantly.
Eat fruits and veggies. Try to elevate your zinc levels. (Beans, mushroom, spinach broccoli, kale, bananas, strawberries, yogurt, cashews, peanut butter, tofu, lentils)
Try to avoid eating & drinking too many cold things.
Animals do Not spread the virus….it’s Person to Person!
Wash metallic surfaces, the virus can remain on this surface for up to 9 days!  When you go out wear gloves…. If not possible … WASH YOUR HANDS after touching hand rails, door knobs, etc.
The virus attaches itself to Hair & Clothes… When coming in from Outside, take off your Clothes and throw in wash…. Take shower immediately and shampoo your hair!
They are NOW saying.. IF YOU GO OUT and Around people… WEAR GLOVES AND A MASK OR SCARF, something to cover your mouth and nose area. Better safe then sorry!

Time is Precious… don’t take anyone for granted!
